Where a Mac screen recorder saves its files

Everything iRecord captures lives on your Mac, in your home folder.

Recordings: ~/Movies/iRecord/Projects/ — one folder per Recording. The Takes are inside, in numbered subfolders, as MP4s. Camera footage sits beside the screen file as a second MP4.

The folder is named after whatever the Recording was called when you made it, and it keeps that name even if you rename the Recording later — so a Recording you have renamed will not have a matching folder name. Renaming only changes the title you see in iRecord, and the name of the file Save Video writes. The surest way to find a Recording's folder is Show in Finder, on the Recording's card on Home or in the editor.

Exports: Save Video fills the destination in with ~/Movies/iRecord and you can change it with Change…. The file is named after the Recording's title; saving a second time offers to keep both rather than overwrite the first.

Nothing is uploaded. There is no account, no sync and no cloud copy. If you delete the folder, the Recording is gone.

Deleting

• Deleting a Recording from Home removes its folder from disk. It does not go to the macOS Trash and it cannot be recovered from there.
• Inside the editor, trims, splits and setting changes are undoable with ⌘Z. Deleting a Section is not — it clears the undo history for that Recording.
• Space is not reclaimed by trimming. A trim changes what Save Video exports; the original Take stays on disk so it can be untrimmed.
