Privacy Policy for iRecord

Last Updated: August 7, 2026

THE SHORT VERSION

Your recordings never leave your Mac. iRecord has no account, no sign-in, and no server that stores your video. We could not look at your recordings if we wanted to — there is nowhere for them to go.

The App contacts the network for exactly two things: checking whether a newer version exists, and validating your licence key. Neither one sends your recordings, your screen contents, or anything about what you record.

1. WHO WE ARE

We are iRecord ("we," "us," "our"), operating from Massachusetts, United States. This policy covers the website https://irecord.video (the "Site") and the iRecord macOS application (the "App").

Questions, or a request about your data: support@irecord.video.

2. WHAT THE APP DOES NOT COLLECT

Stated first, because it is the part that matters most:

  • Your recordings. Screen, camera, and microphone capture is written directly to your own disk (by default, your Movies folder). Nothing is uploaded.
  • Your screen contents. Not while recording, not while idle, not in error reports.
  • Analytics or usage tracking from inside the App. There is no telemetry, no event logging, and no crash reporter in iRecord. We do not know which features you use, how long you record for, or how often you open it.
  • An account. There is nothing to register for, and no password for us to store.

3. WHAT THE APP DOES SEND

Update checks

Once a day the App fetches a small file listing the latest version, hosted on GitHub. Like any web request this reveals your IP address and a basic user agent to GitHub, which operates its own logs under its own privacy policy. We receive nothing from it and keep no record of who checked.

Licence validation

When you activate a licence key, the App sends the key and a name for the activation to Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider, so it can confirm the key is valid and count how many Macs are using it. The activation name is your Mac's own computer name — the one you set in System Settings — so that you can recognise which machine to release when you move your licence. If you would rather that not identify you, rename your Mac before activating.

The App re-checks the key occasionally in the background. If it cannot reach the server, nothing happens and your licence keeps working.

That is the complete list

During the 7-day trial, before any key is entered, the App makes no licence requests at all — the trial clock is local to your Mac.

4. WHAT IS STORED ON YOUR MAC

Your licence key, your trial start date, and your customer email (if the store returned one) are stored in your macOS Keychain, so that reinstalling the App does not lose your licence or restart your trial. Your recording preferences are stored in standard macOS app preferences. All of it stays on your machine, and all of it is removed if you delete the App and its Keychain entry.

macOS — not us — controls the App's access to your screen, camera, and microphone. You grant those permissions to macOS directly and can revoke them at any time in System Settings, under Privacy & Security.

5. PAYMENTS

Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. They collect your billing details, your email address, and whatever tax information their obligations require. We never see or store your card details. Lemon Squeezy shares with us the order record and email address needed to support you and honour refunds, and processes your data under its own privacy policy.

6. THE WEBSITE

The Site is separate from the App and behaves like an ordinary website. It uses a privacy-friendly analytics service to count visits and see which pages and links people use. That service runs in cookieless mode: it stores no cookie or other identifier on your device, and instead counts a visit using a short-lived fingerprint that is re-scrambled every day, so we cannot recognise you tomorrow or follow you to another site. It builds no advertising profile and shares nothing with ad networks, and we run no advertising or marketing trackers here. Any other optional cookies are governed by your choices in the cookie banner, which you can change at any time. If you email us or join a waitlist, we keep your message and address in order to reply.

We do not sell your personal information.

7. YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. In practice, what we hold is your purchase record and any correspondence — email us and we will action it.

Because your recordings are only ever on your own disk, there is no request you need to make of us to delete them. Deleting the files deletes them.

8. CHILDREN

iRecord is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

9. FUTURE FEATURES

We intend to offer hosted share links in the future. That would be a separate service with its own account, and it would necessarily involve uploading the specific recordings you choose to share. It does not exist today, nothing in the current App uploads anything, and we will publish its own privacy terms — and ask for your agreement — before any such feature ships. Opting in would always be per-recording and explicit.

10. CHANGES

If this policy changes, the "Last Updated" date above changes with it. If a change ever meant the App started collecting something it does not collect today, we would say so plainly rather than rely on you re-reading this page.
