Nothing moved on screen — is the recording missing frames

A stretch where you talked over a static window looks, in some tools, like a gap: fewer frames, a lower average frame rate, a smaller file than you expected.

Cause. macOS delivers a frame to a screen recorder when the screen content changes. A screen holding perfectly still produces no new frames, because there is nothing new to record.

This is expected behaviour, not a fault. The take is complete. The picture is held, not lost, and playback shows exactly what was on the screen for the whole stretch. It is also why a long recording of a mostly static screen is much smaller than one of a video playing.

What still runs during a still stretch

When it is worth reporting. If the camera picture freezes on one frame for several seconds while you were still moving — in the editor, or in a saved MP4 — that is a fault, not this. See Contacting support.
