How iRecord updates, and what to do when no update appears
iRecord checks for a new version once a day and installs nothing without being asked.
How an update reaches you
- A found update appears as a quiet pill on Home. Click it when you are ready.
- The update window only opens when iRecord is already the app you are looking at. It never jumps in front of what you are doing.
- No check ever runs during a recording. Installing an update quits and relaunches the app, which would end the take. If you ask for a check mid-recording, iRecord refuses and says why.
- To check on demand: the menu bar icon, or Settings → Check for Updates….
No update ever appears
Almost always the app is not in a place it can replace itself.
- Quit iRecord.
- Open the disk image and drag iRecord onto the Applications alias inside it.
- Eject the disk image and launch iRecord from Applications.
Two locations look normal and cannot update: running the app straight off the mounted disk image (the image is read-only), and running a still-quarantined copy from wherever it was downloaded — macOS executes that from a read-only temporary location. Moving it to Applications fixes both.
"The app is damaged." The download did not complete cleanly. Delete it, empty the Trash and download again. If it happens a second time, write in — see Contacting support.
